After thirty or forty years in the same flat, it is not really about boxes and furniture. It is about a home, about memories, and about deciding what comes along and what stays behind. That is why we plan a senior move differently from any other job: more slowly, with more conversation, and without time pressure on the day.
Gerber Transport is based in Winterthur and moves people throughout the canton of Zurich as well as the cantons of Thurgau, Schaffhausen and St. Gallen. Whether the move leads to a smaller, step-free flat, to the children in another municipality, or into a retirement and care facility, you have one contact person who stays with the job from the viewing to the handover of the keys.
Our team takes the time to explain. We tell you in advance how the day will run, how many people will come and roughly when everything will be in place. If you like, we call briefly the evening before. It sounds like a small thing, and it takes away most of the nervousness.
Many offers cover the transport only. Whatever comes before and after stays with the family: finding boxes, dismantling furniture, hauling away bulky waste, cleaning the flat at the end. With us all of that belongs to the same job and appears on the same quote.
We pack completely, or only where it gets delicate — crockery, pictures, display cabinets. In the new flat we unpack again on request.
Beds, wardrobes and chests of drawers are taken apart properly, transported and reassembled at the destination — including aids such as a care bed.
Whatever no longer has a place we take with us and dispose of properly. Nobody has to drive bulky waste to a collection point.
If something should be kept for now, we store it in dry units — flexibly and with no minimum period.
We hand the old flat over swept and cleaned. If the inspection raises an objection, we clean again free of charge.
You are not passed to someone new each time you call. One person knows your job, from the viewing to the handover of the keys.
You call or write to us. We clarify where the move is going, when it should happen and what matters most to you.
We come by, look at the flat, the stairwell and the access, and go through what comes along. That usually also shows what should be stored or disposed of.
You receive a quote with a fixed price, including every extra we discussed. No hourly billing, no surprise on the invoice.
The team protects floors and stairwells, packs, carries and transports. You only have to say where things belong in the new home.
We take care of disposal and the final cleaning afterwards, so the flat inspection passes without anything to redo.
The transport, the packing and the furniture assembly are ours. Eight things still stay with you – and they are exactly what decides whether moving day runs calmly. Do them a week in advance and nothing is left to decide on the day.
A move with friends and family looks cheaper at first. The difference usually shows on the day itself — in the carrying, in the transport, and in everything that still has to be done after the last box.

Moving into a retirement or care facility is the most demanding senior move there is. Not because of the distance, but because the space in the new home is a fraction of the old one. Four rooms often become one furnished room, with space for only a few personal pieces.
We take that step in two stages. First we record which furniture and belongings come along — usually the bed, the favourite armchair, a chest of drawers, pictures and photographs. Then we clarify what goes to relatives, what is stored and what should be disposed of. Only once that is settled do we fix the moving date.
Inside the home we work quietly and outside mealtimes, because most facilities have fixed delivery windows. We arrange that with the management ourselves, so the family does not have to handle it too.
A great many of our senior moves are organised by the children — often from another city or from abroad. In that case the viewing, the quote and all arrangements run through you, by phone or email. On moving day it is enough if one person is on site; a neighbour or a carer works just as well.
After the move you get a short message confirming that everything is in place and the old flat is ready for handover. That keeps you informed without having to take time off work.
The classic change of flat at a fixed price — for everyone moving simply because it is time, not because of age.
Store furniture until it is decided what happens to it — dry, secure, with no minimum period.
Anything that does not come along we take with us during the move and dispose of properly.
Flat handover with a guarantee — if the inspection raises an objection, we clean again free of charge.
A free viewing, a binding quote with a fixed price and one contact person for the whole move. Just tell us when it suits you.
