Summer holidays are considered an ideal time to move — but is that really true? We honestly look at the advantages and disadvantages of moving house during the holiday season and show you what you need to pay attention to in order to get into your new home relaxed despite the high season.
As soon as school holidays begin, the number of removals in Switzerland skyrockets. Families are taking advantage of the school break, professionals are taking vacation and landlords know that the high season is beginning. At first glance, summer seems like the perfect time to move — good weather, no school obligations, long days. But anyone who has ever experienced a summer move also knows the downsides: busy schedules, higher prices and the exposure to heat that has already been discussed.

For families with children, summer is the most logical time to move. The children do not have to change schools in the middle of the school year, the move can be planned in peace and quiet and the entire family can actively help move in. During the holidays, children have more time to familiarise themselves with their new home, new quarters and new neighbors — this makes settling in much easier.
In summer, you simply have more hours of daylight available. A moving day can start early and last until late in the evening — without having to work in the dark. This gives the moving team more leeway and significantly reduces time pressure. This buffer is particularly valuable for larger households with lots of moving goods.
In summer, the probability of rain is significantly lower than in autumn or spring. This is particularly important when transporting sensitive furniture, electronics or works of art. Wet stairs, slippery floors and soggy boxes are usually not a problem when moving in the summer.

Alternatively, it is worth checking whether moving just before or after the main holiday months — i.e. at the end of June or beginning of September — is possible on more favourable terms.

Electronics, wooden furniture, wax objects and food react sensitively to extreme heat. Without proper planning, a hot moving day can be a physical and logistical challenge.
Summer is also the peak season for road construction in Switzerland. Detours, blocked access roads and increased traffic due to holiday travelers can extend the travel time of the moving van. Good route planning and sufficient time buffers are therefore particularly important in summer.

Autumn and spring months often offer the most comfortable conditions for moving: no extreme heat, no ice and snow, moderate temperatures between 10 and 20 degrees. These are ideal conditions for the moving team and for sensitive furniture.
